This course helps students develop their basic drawing skills while enhancing their artwork with greater depth through surface decoration and 3D-effect.
The students will learn to define movement, proportion and perspective drawing from a live fashion model, representing the silhouette of the figure and of clothing through a series of exercises beginning with 2 minutes sketches to longer studies in color blocking and contour line drawing. These studies will then be be developed further with 3D effects such as cut outs, origami and various surface decoration and collage effects.
No previous experience in fashion or drawing is necessary.
Supplies: Bring to first class: newsprint pad (large size), pencils and charcoal pencils
(2B-4B), 1 small box pastels (12 colors)

Understanding the fashion landscape from a marketing perspective is an essential tool for those who are interested in understanding a career in the fashion industry. This course will examine the fashion environment from a marketing perspective and will provide the students with a clear idea of the different market segments and their respective strategies: "Who is the target market for these brands?" and "What is their position in a very competitive world ?" are just a few of the questions that will be addressed in this course. The course will mainly evolve around class discussion based on readings given to the students prior to each class.

To style means to shape, to transform, to express. Styling and throwing second skins on ourselves allows us to become somebody else.
Creating new worlds, inventing characters and pushing your imagination to its limits is what we will do over the 10 week period. In this course, students will learn the fundamental techniques of sourcing garments, accessories and props. We will work as a team, undertaking individual creative projects and styling assignments. Our goal is to have you find your very own personal styling language and to create a unique universe to be captured on camera during a final photo shoot.
Supplies: Digital camera (with adaptor to download images to computer), Laptop computer (optional), Sketchbook and assortment of pens, objects that inspire you (fashion or otherwise), a selection of clothing, shoes and accessories. During the course you should also be prepared to source extra clothing, materials and props for fashion shoots.

This course is about learning to develop simple garments using basic blocks. The basic skirt, dress, jacket and trousers will be the main garments the student will learn to make. The course will cover different techniques applied to the basic blocks in the pattern developing process. From dart manipulation to creating fullness, gathers or pleats, to making yokes and various style lines, students will be led through the process of creating final patterns. Students will leave the course with reference files, notes and handouts to enable them to use the skills learned during the course to develop patterns to make different garments.
No previous knowledge in patternmaking is required for this course.
