This course both completes and enhances for each student a basic sense of traditional drawing skills before extending to more personal and experimental approaches and experiences.

Through exploration and further development of familiar drawing skills, students will learn how to appropriate each chosen medium and its specific uses. Students will develop a clear sense of their individual development through a variety of challenges, teaching events, demonstrations and chosen themes.

Students may also work directly from the human figure in a variety of ways, developing personal skills, vocabulary and sensitivity. The course will provide the basic technological knowledge of various drawing techniques and will enable students to create a strong contextual understanding of their work in relation with objective reality.

February 25 to April 28, 2012
Sessions: 10

Students will develop their skills in the techniques and language of fine art. A portfolio showing potential for further study in fine arts and/or design will be developed through classwork and critique. Projects will include: drawing from life and from a model, color theory and painting exercises, and a thematic project which will be open to mixed media and personal interpretation.

Supplies: A sketchbook (book sized), a large drawing pad, charcoal, pencils (an assortment)
India ink, 3 paint brushes (synthetic flats. Small, medium, large), an OLFA (or Exacto) knife
Black and white Canson paper 24X32 cm, 4 pieces of Bristol board,a basic set of gouache paints (white, black, blue, red, yellow),a glue stick

Other materials may be added later in the course.

Thursday 19:30-22:00
February 23 to April 26, 2012
Sessions: 10

The course familiarizes students with mixing basic printmaking techniques (color monoprints, Lino Walton, dry point, burin, etching, soft ground, textures with Lyons roulettes), Tok Solar photopolymere plates, and silkscreen prints (full colors). Students may also use photographic and downloaded images and computer skills in conjunction with classic methods to produce color and black and white images.

Please note that all materials are non-toxic.

Supplies: Apron and working clothes. All supplies are provided by the school.
